Where should you turn when faced with a big, philosophical question? The internet, of course. Half philosophy, one third “jokes”, one twelfth science, one twelfth politics, and 100% carefully calculated fractions. That’s the Deep Fought Promise!

Episode 46: In Two Minds About This

Happy anniversary, honeys. Yes, one year ago on April 10th, 2014, we launched Deep Fought with four episodes. Technically we'd recorded and uploaded some in March, but once we'd finally hit an acceptable sound quality (if not content quality) we felt ready to tell people about it on Facebook. It's been a weird and fun ride for us, so thanks to anyone that listens or listened in the past and then moved on with their lives. This episode's mistakes include:

  • Starting with the Skype call because Michael hadn't hit record, and then ending with the Skype call because Michael's audio file became five minutes of unnerving static tone.
  • Fumbling our way into and out of a topic, again.
  • Biting the hand that feeds us, so to speak.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.
Cheers to you, for liking us on Facebook, following us on Twitter, rating us on iTunes, emailing us at deepfought@gmail.com, and being the consummate podcast audience professionals that you are.

Episode 45: Absinthe Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

Did you think we'd forgotten about you? We had. But then we remembered, and we rounded the ol' band up for one more spin round this rodeo. This week, a catch up, before we explore the use of alcohol and the influence it has in society. Going in hard, going in dark. That's what she said. This episode's mistakes include:

  • Successfully muxing two audio streams into one file for the first time ever, and then undermining it with wildlife noise.
  • A freeform structure that evolves over time.
  • A long time between drinks, podcast instalment-wise.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.

Episode 44: Give Me Space

Hello and welcome back to Deep Fought on its now fortnightly-ish schedule. Still plugging away towards the big 5-0. This week, through a once again amateurish Skype setup, we talk about human proximity and its correlation with social behaviour. Or at least, we brush up against it and then wander somewhere else. You know how it goes. This episode's mistakes include:

  • Michael's beard and collar brushing his microphone constantly. Yep. Hate mail welcome.
  • Never quite getting into the topic of human behaviour.
  • Failed to disclose sponsorship by Kmart.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.

Episode 43: How To Get Away With Murder

Welcome back to our now fortnightly (?) international podcast. We're still fiddling with the technical side of things, so forgive us some teething issues, but we're surprisingly on topic this week. It's all about murder, and how people get away with it. Hello darkness, our old friend. This episode's mistakes include:

  • Yeah, we're using the Skype call again instead of the combination of both of our individual mics. Michael has setup which sounded good on the call but his recording came through really quiet. It wasn't worth it. We'll get there, but for now there's a lot of background hiss. *shrug*
  • Repeatedly promoting another podcast - the wonderful Serial - instead of our own.
  • Apologising for mistakes we can't quite remember the specifics of.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.
Nobody can know about this, so like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, rate us on iTunes, and send an email to deepfought@gmail.com.

Episode 42: New Beginnings

We promised, and we delivered. Season two begins with a brand new cast in the same old location, or something. Anyway, Nick is in New Zealand, Michael is in Australia, and our audio system has had to deal with that kind of complexity for the first time. In between a catch up, we end up talking about the whole #jesuischarlie thing, as well as abortion and genetic screenings. So, same old, same old. This episode's mistakes include:

  • The return of audio quality issues! We are actually putting out the Skype recording itself, rather than the blend of our two distinctly recorded audio files. Michael's end had an echo, and it was annoying, so rather than make you endure my voice twice as much as usual, we'll just put up the lower quality Skype version and make do.
  • Being less focussed on a topic than usual. Sue us, we were catching up.
  • Failing to promote our new Valentine's Day gift card service after the success of our yuletide paint pictures.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.

Episode 41: It Has To End Sometime

Well, it happened. Nick got a job, Michael got arrested for shoplifting, and Deep Fought as it is must cease to be. Season 1 of it, at least. So if we're going out, we're going out with a bang - an extended, special edition finale to what has been an enormously enjoyable podcast to make and put out there. So while we hit pause for a little while - giving plenty of time for new and lapsed listeners alike to binge their way through the past forty episodes - internationally flavoured Season 2 episodes await in 2015. But until then, we must apologise, for this episode's mistakes include:

  • Discovering a perfect podcast environment in the last episode after forty uncomfortable episodes preceding it.
  • Avoiding discussing our own impending personal sadness by discussing the past week's global sadnesses instead.
  • Focussing on the mistakes we made in each week's blog post rather than celebrating whatever we may have accomplished.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.
Swallow your feelings by liking us on Facebook, following us on Twitter, rating us on iTunes, and getting a personalised yuletide message from us by emailing deepfought@gmail.com.

Episode 40: Big Changes

It's the big 40, and we're talking about change. It's a surprisingly focussed but tangential episode, in that we know exactly what we want to talk about on topics that evolved rapidly. The question: what one thing would we change about the world? The answer may surprise you. I mean, it may not, but we don't know you well enough to judge yet. This episode's mistakes include:

  • The longest intro we've ever done.
  • Delayed gratification to last week's cliffhanger.
  • Possible background music for added atmosphere.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.
Buckle up, and then like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, rate us on iTunes and send us questions and comments to deepfought@gmail.com.

Episode 39: Mental

It might be the beginning of the end for one of us. Who? Why? When? It's sweeps week even for podcasts, and these are the kind of big budget stories that draw the crowds. You'll have to tune in to find out. This episode's mistakes include:

  • An undertone of impending nostalgia for these last great days.
  • An sense of anxiety over unknown futures.
  • Ending on a cliffhanger.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.
Wait and see, but in the meantime like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, rate us on iTunes, and send an email to deepfought@gmail.com.

Episode 38: Melting Pot

Gather round the pod table with close friends and their plus ones, for it's time for another episode. This week we launch headfirst into a discussion about living one life or ten lives, and then launch headlast away from that when it's clear it's not working. Luckily, we land in some new stuff like outback survival and dietary choices. This episode's mistakes include:

  • A rough start in which we struggle uphill at a topic before bailing. Don't be afraid to run away from your problems, kids.
  • Bear Grylls reference.
  • Schizophrenic focus, aka "ping-ponging".
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.
Fill up, and then like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, rate us on iTunes and email us at deepfought@gmail.com.

Episode 37: Legendary

It's a podcast for the ages, because we're talking about myths and the way stories become legends. With a silent audience of three, and a surprising amount of energy, we explore what makes for a compelling fable and whether any events today will last in the same way. This episode's mistakes include:

  • Artificially trying to pump up the energy levels, leading only to volume spikes.
  • Occasional titters from onlookers that completely destroyed the serious atmosphere.
  • Missed opportunity to convert listeners to Germanic paganism.
  • Egregious factual inaccuracies.
